Profiling Motorized 3- and 2-Wheelers for 1 Clean City: Developing Strategies to Curb Emissions from Transport

Purpose and Objective

Develop city fleet profiles of motorized 2-& 3-wheelers used as public transport towards formulating Avoid-Shift-Improve Strategies to reduce emissions.

Target Participants

City Administration Section Heads & their technical support staff:
– Transport Licensing Section
– Transport Planning/City Engineering Section
– Records section
– Environmental Section
– Head of local 2&3-W associations
– Representative of City Council on transport
– Representative of local traffic enforcement
– Local NGOs and civil society groups focusing on air quality and mobility

Objectives

At the end of the training, the participants will be able to:

1. Generate a city fleet profile of public 2- or 3-wheeler use by computing the following transport-related metrics:
percentage of two-stroke units
2- or 3W-vehicle to population ratio
estimated vehicle kilometers travelled
estimated passenger kilometers
estimated emissions from 2- or 3W fleet
2. Propose at least one Avoid-Shift-Improve strategy to reduce emissions from 2- or 3-wheelers that are applicable to their city and communicate this in a presentation.
