1.

Research Project: Studies Pertaining to Powered Two-Wheelers (Motorcycles) in the Philippines

Objectives/Description: The study intends to conduct the following:
1. Review all national laws/codes and local rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to powered two wheelers and recommend amendments/ revisions;
2. Analyze capacity/throughput of exclusive motorcycle lanes with varying widths under controlled condition;
3. Conduct inventory of use of motorcycles in rural areas; and
4. Assess the widespread lane-splitting and filtering practices of motorcycle along major roads in Metro Manila.

2.

Research Project: The Mass Transit System in Metro Manila: From Tranvia to the MRT, 1879-2014
in cooperation with UP Third World Studies Center (TWSC) and UP Department of Geography

Objectives/Description: The program draws on the disciplines of history, political economy, geography, and transport
engineering to put together a comprehensive and critical survey of
mass transit plans for (Metro) Manila, focusing on the rail network
that services the metropolis. The program has four projects.

Research Project: Development of a Customized Local Traffic Simulator (Local Sim)
in collaboration with the UP Department of Computer Science

Objectives/Description: The project seeks to develop agent-based simulation of different traffic scenarios that models local traffic characteristics including unique behavior of the Filipino road users (drivers, public transport passengers and pedestrians).

Research Project: Alternative Fuels Vehicles Tests and Research Program and Energy Efficiency in Road Transport (Phase 2)
in collaboration with UP Vehicle Research and Testing Laboratory and UP National Engineering Center (Project Manager)

Objectives/Description: To establish fuel economy rating and performance standards of alternative fuel vehicles through the conduct of researches and tests (Phase 2 to cover longer route lengths)

Research Project: Development of the Philippine Metropolitan Advanced Traveler Information System (PhilMATIS)
in collaboration with UP-Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute and UP Department of Computer Science

Objectives/Description: Develop and pilot-test an advanced traveler information system (ATIS) that will measure and record traffic volume and incidence of flooding along major roads in Metro Manila.

6.

Research Project: Engineering the Jeepney Using an OEM Vehicle Platform

Objectives/Description: The project aims to design and build a PNS 2111:2015 – Compliant prototype jeepney using an OEM vehicle platform. The use of an OEM vehicle platform increases the amount of engineered components/systems of the jeepney thus enhancing its conformance to vehicle performance and safety standards. The OEM platform also helps in parts standardization and availability and takes advantage of an established supply chain.
