The University of the Philippines National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS) successfully concluded its Traffic Administration Course on September 15–19, 2025, with 66 participants from local government units (LGUs), private companies, universities and national government agencies.
The program, an introductory course on transportation planning and traffic engineering and management, was designed to equip participants with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of traffic administration. Sessions covered transportation planning, traffic engineering and management, traffic impact assessment, road safety programs, public transportation planning, mobility management, and transportation surveys.
Beyond the classroom, the course also featured the actual conduct of transportation and traffic surveys, including volume counts, inventory survey, boarding and alighting counts, and frequency surveys. These hands-on activities provided participants with valuable experience in generating and analyzing data for evidence-based decision-making.
The program was also conducted with the support of PUP Civil Engineering interns of the Center, who were immersed in transportation planning and traffic engineering activities. Their participation provided them with hands-on learning opportunities and valuable experience in working with stakeholders in the field.
Distinguished experts served as resource persons, including Dr. Jun T. Castro, Engr. Aileen U. Mappala, EnP. Geoel Anthony Y. Esguerra, Mr. Sahid A. Kamid, Dr. Ma. Sheilah G. Napalang, EnP. Jerome N. Ballarta, Mr. Glenn Simon D. Latonero, Dr. Sandy Mae A. Gaspay, and Dr. Cresencio M. Montalbo, Jr. Their lectures, workshops, and case discussions provided both theoretical insights and practical applications, fostering dynamic exchanges of knowledge and experience.
UP NCTS emphasized that the wide range of participants reflected the shared responsibility of both public and private sectors in improving mobility and road safety nationwide. The Center reaffirmed its commitment to capacity building and professional development, ensuring that programs such as the Traffic Administration Course continue to contribute to more sustainable and efficient transport systems.
