A Road Safety Campaign Kickoff, organized by the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA), occurred on December 1, 2023, at the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) in Makati City. This event brought together a significant gathering of industry leaders, road safety experts, advocates, policymakers, and stakeholders to address the pressing concern of road crashes in the Philippines.
Mr. Sahid Kamid, a member of the Traffic Engineering and Management Group (TEM) at the National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS), was invited as a guest speaker. He delivered a presentation on the “Overview of Road Safety Challenges in the Philippines.” Additionally, Mr. Kamid also served as a panelist, contributing to discussions on potential solutions to rising road crashes in the country.
Mr. Michael F. Rellosa, Executive Director of PIRA, set the tone for the said program. He highlighted the collective responsibility of stakeholders in tackling the growing concern of road crashes. Mr. Rellosa emphasized the need for collaboration, encouraging active participation from the insurance industry, policymakers, and the broader community.
The event was conceptualized to bring together key players with the shared goal of addressing the escalating issue of road crashes. The comprehensive discussions focused on transportation and automobile safety, exploring effective strategies to mitigate incidents and improve road safety across the country.
Recognizing the National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS) as a leading institution on transportation research, the event also highlighted the center’s years of dedicated research on road safety.
