UP NCTS REPS Join Global Leaders at Asia-Pacific Road Safety Conference 2025

The University of the Philippines National Center for Transportation Studies (UP NCTS) proudly joined global road safety leaders at the Asia-Pacific Road Safety Conference (APRSC 2025), held on 9–11 September 2025 at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Headquarters in Metro Manila.

With the theme “Strengthening and Diversifying Financing for Road Safety”, the conference gathered more than 250 participants from government, civil society, private sector, and research institutions. The event was supported by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), the High-Level Technology Fund (HLTF), and organized by the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), ADB, and the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), with additional support from International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), FIA Foundation, the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, Bridgestone Asia Pacific, and the United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety.

Among the highlights were keynote presentations by Mr. Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, and Dr. Soames Job, as well as a Ministerial Roundtable where senior government officials discussed national strategies to address road safety.

iRAP hosted four sessions during the conference, two of which featured representatives from UP NCTS:

Session 3: Practical Demonstration of Tools for Transforming Safe and Sustainable Mobility

  • UP NCTS was represented by REPS Glenn Simon D. Latonero, who joined participants in exploring the use of innovative tools and approaches to strengthen safe and sustainable transport solutions. In particular, he demonstrated the application of the Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) tool, highlighting how it can be used to assess and improve safety conditions in school zones as part of promoting safe and sustainable mobility.
  • Session 4: RAP Update and Knowledge Sharing Session
UP NCTS was represented by REPS Sahid A. Kamid, who shared updates on the application of the Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) in four Philippine cities through the Child Road Traffic Injury Prevention (CRTIP) Program. The session also showcased how iRAP and its partners, including AusRAP, ThaiRAP, MyRAP Malaysia, KazRAP, IndiaRAP, and VietnamRAP, are using the iRAP methodology to eliminate high-risk roads and save lives.

Through its active participation, UP NCTS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing evidence-based road safety initiatives and strengthening collaborations with international partners. By contributing to knowledge exchange and showcasing local progress, NCTS continues to play a vital role in ensuring safer and more sustainable mobility for all road users in the Philippines.
