NCTS to Conduct Webinar on Motorcycle Safety on May 30, 2023

Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation worldwide, but road safety remains a significant concern. Motorcycle-related incidents often lead to severe injuries and fatalities, highlighting the need for improved safety measures. In the Philippines, motorcycles are involved in a high number of road crashes, with almost half of the fatal crashes in Metro Manila involving motorcycles.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has taken steps to address this issue such as implementing exclusive motorcycle lanes and proposing an Anti Lane-Splitting law. However, with the increasing number of motorcycle users, more efforts are necessary.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also contributed to the rise in motorcycle usage, resulting in more inexperienced riders on the road. Education and advocacy for motorcycle safety are crucial, considering that 26% of newly registered motorcycles in 2022 were owned by inexperienced riders. It is imperative to prioritize road safety through comprehensive approaches and collaboration among stakeholders. With the ever-increasing motorcycle ownership and use in the Philippines, how can safety for riders and other road users be improved? This is the question that this Webinar seeks to address.
