We would like to invite the members of the Transportation Science Society of the Philippines to the webinar “Mainstreaming equity and justice in transport planning” on October 11 2023, Wednesday, 2-4pm (Philippine time).

Theme: Mainstreaming equity and justice in transport planning

For several decades, transportation planning has been dominated by rules and practices grounded on a paradigm based on the “principle of demand” – a paradigm which prioritizes unhindered movement and congestion-free travel over access and equity.

In response to this, several transportation scholars have called for a fundamental shift, a radical reform of transportation planning itself, with Prof. Martens being one of the prominent voices. They call for a shift from a practice based on the “principle of demand” to one grounded on “principles of justice”.

This seminar will discuss the philosophical underpinning of transport planning firmly based on justice, and the possible pathways by which it can be applied – and mainstreamed – in transport planning education, training and practice in Asia, with particular focus on the Philippines.
